Natural Timber Appearance
Wood-grain finishes and natural colour families provide a timber-inspired aesthetic for architectural and landscape applications.
DMWOOD™ | WPC Composite Decking
The natural look of timber, engineered for greater durability. DMWOOD™ combines timber-inspired texture and warmth with the reduced maintenance of modern Wood-Plastic Composite decking for residential, commercial and public infrastructure.
What is WPC Composite Decking?
Wood-Plastic Composite decking combines wood fibre with polymer materials to create an engineered decking board for exterior applications.
The objective is straightforward: retain the natural appearance and warmth associated with timber while improving resistance to many of the deterioration mechanisms that affect conventional timber outdoors.
DMWOOD™ provides a timber-look surface without relying on the same ongoing coating and maintenance regime required by many natural timber decking products.
Typical applications include residential decks, commercial outdoor areas, boardwalks, pedestrian walkways, balconies, parks, recreational facilities, pool surrounds, landscaping and coastal environments.
DMWOOD™ uses textured wood-grain finishes and carefully selected colour options to recreate the visual warmth of timber while reducing the sanding, staining, sealing and oiling typically associated with conventional timber decks.
Why Choose DMWOOD™?
DMWOOD™ is designed for projects where the visual warmth of timber is desired without committing the asset owner to the same maintenance regime as natural timber.
Wood-grain finishes and natural colour families provide a timber-inspired aesthetic for architectural and landscape applications.
Routine cleaning remains important, but DMWOOD™ does not depend on periodic sanding, staining or oiling for its basic durability.
Composite construction provides improved resistance to moisture-related deterioration and biological decay compared with conventional timber.
Composite decking does not splinter in the same manner as natural timber, making it attractive for pedestrian and recreational environments.
Manufactured boards provide greater consistency in dimensions and appearance while avoiding naturally occurring defects such as knots and splits.
Lower requirements for refinishing, coating and replacement can help reduce recurring maintenance demands for commercial and public assets.
Bushfire-Prone Applications
DMWOOD™ includes certified BAL-40 decking options for applicable projects requiring increased bushfire performance while retaining a timber-look surface.
DMWOOD™ Composite Decking Range
DMWOOD™ is available in several finishes, board dimensions and colour families to suit different architectural, landscape and infrastructure requirements.
A refined timber-look composite decking range designed to provide a clean contemporary finish.
A more heavily textured surface for projects where a pronounced timber-style appearance is preferred.
A warmer traditional timber appearance suited to decks, boardwalks and outdoor spaces.

Colours & Finishes
Colour selection has a major influence on the completed appearance of a deck. The DMWOOD™ range includes natural browns, greys and darker architectural finishes.
WPC Decking vs Traditional Timber
Neither material is universally better. Selection should consider appearance, environment, fire requirements, structural support, maintenance expectations and project-specific requirements.
| Feature | DMWOOD™ WPC Decking | Traditional Timber |
|---|---|---|
| Natural timber appearance | Yes — engineered timber-look finish | Yes — natural timber |
| Sanding | Generally not required | Periodically required |
| Staining / oiling | Not routinely required | Commonly required |
| Splinters | Does not splinter like timber | Possible |
| Rot resistance | High resistance | Species / treatment dependent |
| Colour consistency | Manufactured consistency | Natural variation |
| Knots / natural board defects | No natural knots | Possible |
| Maintenance | Low | Moderate to high |
| Cleaning | Required | Required |
| Bushfire option | BAL-40 system available | Depends on species / system |
| Painting | Not normally required | May be required |

Design Flexibility
Multiple colours, board widths and surface textures allow DMWOOD™ to coordinate with FRP, steel, concrete and other structural systems depending on the project design.
DMWOOD™ Decking Fixing System
Purpose-designed fixing components secure the boards while helping maintain a clean finished surface without rows of prominent face fixings.
Used to secure WPC decking boards while maintaining the required board positioning.
A durable stainless steel intermediate fixing for securing decking boards.
Used at the commencement and termination of decking runs.
Installing DMWOOD™ Composite Decking
Installation requirements depend on the selected DMWOOD™ board, supporting structure and application. The current product installation instructions should always be followed.
Confirm the supporting structure is straight, adequately supported and appropriate for the intended loading and board support centres.
Position the first board accurately and secure it using the specified starter fixing system.
Install subsequent boards using the nominated intermediate clips while maintaining required spacing and alignment.
Finish the final board using the appropriate edge detail and fixing arrangement for the selected system.
Complete Composite Systems
DMWOOD™ decking boards form the walking surface and should not automatically be treated as primary structural beams, bearers or joists.
The supporting structure must be designed for the required project loads and decking support centres. For infrastructure projects, DMWOOD™ can be combined with DMBEAM™ FRP Structural Profiles to create a coordinated composite solution.

Whole-of-Life Considerations
For councils, developers and asset owners, the long-term maintenance burden can be as important as the initial material cost.
DMWOOD™ is intended to reduce repetitive sanding, staining, oiling and sealing associated with conventional timber decking.
DMWOOD™ incorporates recycled materials within its wood-plastic composite construction, providing an alternative to decking manufactured entirely from virgin resources.
Maintenance labour, site establishment, public access management and temporary closures can all contribute to the whole-of-life cost of public decking assets.
WPC Decking in Built Environments
DMWOOD™ can be considered across residential, commercial and public infrastructure where appearance, durability and reduced maintenance are important.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about appearance, maintenance, installation, coastal applications, BAL-40 options and structural support.
WPC stands for Wood-Plastic Composite. WPC decking combines wood-based material with polymer components to create an engineered decking board designed for outdoor use.
WPC decking is a type of composite decking. The terms WPC decking, wood-plastic composite decking and composite decking are commonly used for boards manufactured using wood fibre and polymer materials.
DMWOOD™ is designed to create a natural timber-inspired appearance using wood-grain textures and colours ranging from warm timber tones through to contemporary greys and darker architectural finishes.
DMWOOD™ has BAL-40 certified decking options available. The applicable product and complete installation system must comply with the relevant certification and installation requirements.
DMWOOD™ is supplied as a finished composite decking product and does not require the routine painting or oiling regime commonly associated with natural timber. Routine cleaning and maintenance are still required.
Yes, where the selected product, support arrangement, loading, slip performance and project requirements are suitable. DM Composites can integrate DMWOOD™ into complete engineered boardwalk solutions.
Yes, subject to engineering and the appropriate fixing arrangement. DMWOOD™ can be combined with DMBEAM™ FRP Structural Profiles for boardwalks, coastal infrastructure and other outdoor structures.
Composite decking can be suitable for coastal applications. The complete installation should consider the decking, supporting structure, fixings, drainage, ventilation and environmental exposure.
Like timber and other outdoor decking materials, composite decking can heat up in direct sunlight. Surface temperature is influenced by colour, solar exposure, ambient temperature and ventilation, with darker colours generally absorbing more solar energy.
No. Decking boards should not automatically be treated as primary structural beams, bearers or joists. They require an appropriately designed supporting structure at the specified support centres.
