Corrosion Resistant
FRP grating provides excellent resistance to corrosion and is particularly suited to coastal, marine, water, wastewater and chemically aggressive environments.
DMGRATE™
DMGRATE™ is DM Composites' range of high-performance FRP grating systems designed for infrastructure, marine, industrial and public access applications across Australia and New Zealand.
Manufactured from glass fibre reinforcement combined with high-performance resin systems, our fibreglass reinforced plastic grating provides a durable, lightweight and corrosion-resistant alternative to traditional steel, aluminium and timber products.
What is FRP Grating?
FRP grating, also known as fibreglass grating or fibreglass reinforced plastic grating, is a structural flooring and access product manufactured using glass fibre reinforcement embedded within a resin matrix. The combination creates a strong, durable and lightweight material with excellent resistance to corrosion, moisture and many aggressive environments.
Unlike conventional steel grating, FRP does not rely on galvanising or protective coatings for its primary corrosion resistance. DMGRATE™ FRP grating can be incorporated into both new infrastructure and refurbishment projects and supplied as individual panels or as part of a complete engineered FRP structure.
Why Choose DMGRATE™ FRP Grating?
DMGRATE™ provides a practical solution where durability, safety, corrosion resistance and reduced maintenance are important considerations.
FRP grating provides excellent resistance to corrosion and is particularly suited to coastal, marine, water, wastewater and chemically aggressive environments.
FRP grating is significantly lighter than conventional steel products, helping simplify transportation, handling and installation.
Despite its low weight, FRP provides excellent structural performance when appropriately selected and designed for the intended application.
DMGRATE™ is available with gritted surface finishes designed to provide increased slip resistance for pedestrian access areas, stairs and platforms.
FRP does not require the regular painting or galvanising maintenance commonly associated with conventional steel structures in corrosive environments.
FRP is electrically non-conductive, making it suitable for many electrical, rail, utilities and industrial environments.
FRP grating can be cut and fabricated to suit project-specific layouts, penetrations, interfaces and irregular geometries.
FRP Grating Applications
DMGRATE™ can be used across a wide range of infrastructure and industrial applications. DM Composites works with councils, government agencies, engineers, contractors, asset owners and infrastructure operators to select appropriate FRP grating systems for project-specific environmental, structural and operational requirements.
FRP grating is well suited to boardwalks, pedestrian walkways and shared paths where durable, low-maintenance public access is required. At Seib & Eumundi, DM Composites delivered a nearly 300-metre FRP boardwalk alongside the new pedestrian bridge, improving pedestrian safety and local connectivity while using lightweight FRP components and anti-slip decking suited to the flood-prone riverside environment.
View Boardwalk Project
FRP grating is well suited to marine and coastal infrastructure exposed to saltwater, splash zones and demanding weather conditions. At Edithburgh Jetty, DM Composites delivered a purpose-built marine dive access stair system with multiple intermediate platforms, providing safer entry and exit for swimmers, snorkellers and divers across varying tide levels while supporting long-term performance in a high-energy marine environment.
View Marine Project
FRP grating is suited to wastewater treatment plants, sewage facilities, pump stations and water infrastructure exposed to constant moisture, chemicals, gases and harsh cleaning agents. Its corrosion resistance, drainage and low-maintenance performance make it particularly suitable for demanding treatment environments.
View Water & Wastewater Solutions
FRP floor grating is used for industrial walkways, access platforms, maintenance structures, stairs and high-risk access areas. Its lightweight, non-conductive, corrosion-resistant and slip-resistant properties make FRP particularly suitable for industrial environments where conventional metallic systems may require significant ongoing maintenance.
View Industrial Access SolutionsProject Environments
DM Composites can supply FRP grating individually or integrate DMGRATE™ into complete engineered access structures incorporating FRP structural profiles, kerbs, handrails, fixings and supporting components.
FRP grating is increasingly used for boardwalks, pedestrian walkways, shared paths and public access infrastructure, particularly where structures are exposed to moisture, coastal conditions or difficult maintenance environments.
DMGRATE™ provides a durable walking surface while its lightweight construction can simplify installation compared with heavier traditional materials.
Marine and coastal environments place significant demands on conventional construction materials due to continuous exposure to moisture, salt and corrosive conditions.
DMGRATE™ provides a corrosion-resistant solution for jetties, pontoons, coastal boardwalks, viewing platforms, beach access structures, stairs and walkways.
Water and wastewater facilities commonly expose structural materials to moisture, chemicals and corrosive operating environments.
DMGRATE™ can be used for access platforms, walkways, stairs, maintenance areas, pump stations and treatment infrastructure where long-term durability is important.
DMGRATE™ FRP Grating Range
DMGRATE™ is available in multiple configurations to suit different structural, access and operational requirements. Product selection should be based on loading, clear span, support arrangement and intended use.
Product selection should consider loading, clear span, support spacing, mesh configuration, resin system, environmental exposure and intended use. DM Composites can assist engineers and project teams with selection of an appropriate DMGRATE™ configuration.
DMGRATE™ FRP Grating Range
FRP Grating Sizes, Colours and Finishes
DMGRATE™ is available in a range of panel dimensions and configurations. Availability may vary according to grating type, thickness, mesh configuration, resin system and project requirements.
Custom fabrication, cut-outs, penetrations and panel layouts can also be provided depending on project requirements.
FRP Grating vs Steel Grating
Both FRP and steel grating have appropriate applications. The optimum material depends on structural loading, environment, span, fire requirements, maintenance expectations and whole-of-life project requirements.
| Feature | FRP Grating | Steel Grating |
|---|---|---|
| Corrosion resistance | Excellent inherent resistance | Typically requires galvanising or coating |
| Weight | Lightweight | Heavier |
| Electrical conductivity | Non-conductive | Conductive |
| Maintenance | Generally low | May require coating or corrosion maintenance |
| Site fabrication | Relatively easy to cut | Typically requires metalworking equipment |
| Coastal environments | Well suited | Requires appropriate corrosion protection |
| Colour | Integral colour options available | Coating generally required |
| Structural capacity | Product and application dependent | Product and application dependent |
FRP Grating Standards, Compliance & Testing
