Located at Caruana Woodlands in Dingley Village, Victoria, the project passes through an environmentally sensitive public reserve containing mature River Red Gums, protected root zones, and existing Melbourne Water drainage infrastructure. The upgraded connection improves pedestrian access through the reserve while responding carefully to the surrounding natural environment.

View Full Case StudyThe project required the new boardwalk and pathway to be constructed through an established woodland environment while protecting mature trees, root zones, and existing drainage infrastructure. Restricted site access and sensitive ground conditions also required careful coordination of foundations, machinery, and construction activities.
Sensitive woodland environment
Controlled plant access, tree protection fencing, environmental controls, and carefully managed excavation minimised disturbance to mature trees and protected root zones.
Low-impact foundations
Surefoot and micropile foundations provided structural support for the elevated boardwalk while limiting excavation and potential damage to surrounding vegetation.
Integrated pathway transitions
Careful grading and compaction created smooth connections between the FRP boardwalk, granitic sand pathway, concrete approaches, and existing paths while maintaining drainage performance.
Existing drainage infrastructure
Construction around the Melbourne Water drain was carefully controlled, with pre- and post-construction CCTV inspections used to protect and verify the condition of the existing asset.
Durable boardwalk system
Galvanised steel columns, bearers and joists were combined with FRP grating decking and stainless steel fixings to create a durable elevated pedestrian structure.
