LOCATION

The Cherbourg Cultural Pathway is more than a footpath—it is a journey that weaves together culture, history, and community connection. Stretching between Cherbourg and Murgon in Queensland’s South Burnett region, the pathway has long been a dream of the Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council. For decades, local residents—many of them elders and children—have been forced to walk dangerously close to vehicle traffic along narrow verges.

OUTCOME

DM Composites was engaged to design and supply Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) micro mesh gratings for the Barambah Boardwalk—a signature element of the Cultural Pathway. This elevated pedestrian structure meanders through a section of bushland rich in cultural significance to the Wakka Wakka people and the broader Cherbourg community.

This project was also a catalyst for economic and social growth in Cherbourg:

  •  Indigenous Employment Plan: Created job opportunities and training for local residents during construction.
  • Supporting Local Businesses: Materials were sourced and supplied in a way that prioritised regional logistics and partnerships.
  • Environmental Care: FRP’s lightweight nature meant reduced machinery use onsite, minimising impact on delicate bushland and waterways.

DM Composites worked closely with contractors and council representatives to ensure our FRP gratings supported not only the technical requirements but also the cultural and environmental aspirations of the community.
