King George V Memorial Park Flood Recovery

DM Composites was selected to deliver the FRP access solution for Gloucester’s King George V Memorial Park, replacing flood-damaged timber stairs and walkways with a durable, low-maintenance system designed to withstand harsh conditions while protecting the park’s sensitive ecological and heritage zones.

LOCATION

As part of the CLIRP (Community Local Infrastructure Recovery Package), DM Composites was engaged to deliver the full design and replacement of critical pedestrian access structures within King George V Memorial Park, Gloucester. The original timber walkway and stair network, heavily impacted by regional flood events, required full demolition and replacement to restore safe access and enhance long-term durability.

OUTCOME

The completed FRP stair and platform system provided safe, accessible, and visually integrated pedestrian access through King George V Memorial Park. Unlike the original timber, the FRP system is rot-proof, non-slip, UV stable, and rated for long-term exposure to wet conditions.

CHALLENGES AND Solutions

Flood vulnerability:

The new system required enhanced structural resilience and corrosion resistance.

Access limitations

Sloped parkland terrain and proximity to a watercourse presented site logistics and installation challenges.

Environmental constraints

Vegetation, habitat protection, and stormwater management controls were strictly enforced.
